But it's one that's a complete stranger to Emma, and one that's far too painfully familiar to North. He could easily be confused for a human, too, if not for the mess of blue blood steadily dripping from the bullet holes spread across his chest. Shiny white plastic is visible in patches around his face and hands, an exact match for the itty bitty patch of white that's been on North's neck since the war. Which is, hm. Fun.
She knows that this isn't real. That this thing isn't him. But still, that doesn't stop her from looking absolutely distraught once the boggart is done shifting. Emma won't be able to see her as she continues to beat the shit out of it, but North reaches forward with one hand—]

[And, of course, that's when the sight of a human curbstomping her not-quite-boyfriend sinks in — and North is rushing forward, shoving Emma away so she can drop to the ground next to him.]
Stop— [RATIONAL THOUGHT? DON'T KNOW HER, BITCH. Only panic fueled thought in this house tonight.] Get the fuck away from him!
[SORRY, EMMA. North will think to apologize later, but right now? She's trapped in her own panic, trying to keep "Markus" alive even when he's already— well. It dosn't really matter, in the grand scheme of things. What does matter is that, while Emma's butt gets acquainted with the ground and North cradles Schrodninger's boyfriend, the boggart begins to speak.]
North— [It's a grotesque, inhuman sound. Mechanical. Obviously the sound of a machine that's received too much damage to work properly. North gasps, opening her mouth as if to say something, but "Markus" keeps talking.] This happened... because of you...
[... Her mouth snaps shut, body language going rigid as if someone just slapped her.]
You were right there... So why didn't you die for me like you said you would?
[Hm.
Well, looks like the boggart was right about escaping a beatdown by targeting North instead? Bad.]
[She moves to a sitting position after a few moments, and while she doesn't want to move forward to get in the middle of this... Regardless of how poorly her and North get along, something twists in her chest watching this.
