[ kara thinks it was supposed to stay quiet, at least until they got more information. but it seems more people have heard about the situation than anticipated, and... he's never been one for secrets like this, anyway. ]
Supposedly, the corruption can't be defeated until only one of us remains, but the dead will have a chance to be revived, after that. There's not much more to it than that.
[Probably. But North doesn't seem surprised at all, so. Yeah. Information is spreading and no one's gone on a murder spree somehow. Whoa.]
... I asked Lune and Sol about it. Supposedly, having too many of us makes it difficult for the universe to know what we want because there's no "true" consensus. So the goal is to choose one person, the survivor, to be our representative in making the final choice.
[Order or chaos. Light or darkness. Etcetera, etcetera. North pauses for a beat, before she sighs.]
I don't have to tell you what will happen if we allow the wrong person to make it to the end, do I?
[ he looks at north thoughtfully, as of wondering why she's bothering to ask. ]
They could throw everything into chaos, ruin the timelines and histories of our worlds. They could destroy all of our worlds entirely, leaving only some or none of them remaining. They could choose to revive only the people they want, and leave the rest for dead.
That's just the start. There are probably a million ways it could go wrong, if the wrong person is left to decide. But it seems like there isn't a lot we can do to choose that person, with the corruption taking hold.
The problem is that you don't know who's corrupted and who isn't. Kill all but one of us, without any way of finding that out first, and you might end up with someone corrupted deciding the fate of the universe. Is that really worth it to you?
[ besides which, kara doesn't think any of them are justified in playing god. he has no problem putting down the corrupted to purify them, or killing someone who's unjustly killed another, but not this. this wouldn't be a battle, it would just be slaughter. ]
Of course not. Not without the right information. Killing people blindly is only going to screw us over.
[She rolls her eyes, like. No. She's not quite advocating for murdering the shit out of everyone without a second thought?]
But if, hypothetically, you knew for a fact that someone wasn't corrupted and couldn't be corrupted. Wouldn't that make the final choice easier? If the universe doesn't ease up and give us an alternative, that's how it's going to end up.

There's one thing that can be done to chose that person. But most people wouldn't like it.

You mean killing all but one of us?

Is there a point to this? I don't have much use for hypotheticals like this.
